Training

Galloway Lakeland offers 3 levels of training programs. Find out more by clicking on the program you’d like to learn more about.

Our Get Started Running program is 9 weeks long, and is for all adults who are new to running. Our half marathon and marathon programs are for runners currently able to walk or run for 30+ minutes.  We have two half marathon sessions: fall and spring.  We offer one marathon session, and also have a year round program for runners who like a combination of half and full marathons.

Runners can join mid-season if their mileage is near the target mileage for the group.

The first session is always free.  Contact the Program Director about joining the group for a guest run.

Why do we begin programs in April/June?

Florida is hot, so endurance race season (13.1+ miles) usually begins in late October/early November. The half marathon training plan is 19 weeks long and to properly prepare for our first target race, The InnerAct Alliance Red Ribbon Half Marathon, training should begin in June. This also allows our members to participate in many other events throughout the rest of the Florida race season, and have our lowest mile weekends occur when the temperatures are warmest. The Getting Started program begins in April so that the members can join the endurance training in June.

Training Pace & Race Pace
To ensure a safe and challenging training experience for everyone, we divide our pace groups along natural ability determined by a mile time trial. Read more about this and how our paces are determined here.
